Equipment

  • Stand mixer (optional) you can also knead by hand. If you don’t have a stand mixer you will also need a large mixing bowl and spoon.

  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese – Freshly grated mozzarella is best. It will melt better.
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Olive oil – to drizzle

How To Make Garlic Parmesan Cheese Bread

Preheat the oven to 325°F.

Making the Dough

1. In your stand mixer bowl add the hot water, not boiling though because it will kill the yeast. Add in the sugar and yeast. Mix thoroughly and set aside for 10 minutes so the yeast can activate.

2. Add the salt and flour. knead on low until a dough ball begins to form. knead on medium speed for 2-3 minutes or until thoroughly kneaded. If you don’t have a stand mixer, mix the flour into your yeast mixture and stir until it is to hard then turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for approximately 5 minutes.

3. Set the dough in a warm draft-free area for about an hour or until the dough doubles in size. This step is optional. When I am in a rush I don’t allow the dough to rest and double in size I skip this step and move on to the next.

Making the butter mixture

1. In a saucepan add the 4 tablespoons of butter and seasonings and melt over low heat. (If you have a microwave you could do this step in the microwave.)

Assembling the Garlic Parmesan Cheese Bread

1. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and drizzle with olive oil. Dump the dough onto the oiled parchment paper and using a rolling pin or your hands begin pressing out the dough to fit the baking sheet.

2. Brush the dough with the butter mixture previously made and place into your preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the dough becomes golden brown.

3. Remove from the oven and spread 1/4 cup of the parmesan cheese onto the dough. Next spread 3 cups of mozzarella cheese, and finally spread the remaining 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese on top. Place back into the oven for 15 minutes and broil for 2-3 minutes or until the cheese gets golden and bubbly. Remove from the oven and brush the top using the remaining butter mixture.
